The new course 25/26 is currently being designed. Updates will follow shortly.

The Course of Educational Yoga in Schools is a higher education course that prepares experts in this field, in an interdisciplinary educational, yogic (and also psychological and philosophical) context, addressed to children and adolescents to help them develop Life Skills.

Purpose of Educational Yoga is strengthening self-knowledge, motivation, attention and concentration skills in minors, by promoting the complete and harmonious education of their entire personality.

The Course provides theoretical knowledge, abilities and experiences to implement cross-cutting competencies in children, adolescents and young adults, and the establishment of Educational Yoga paths in schools, both for ordinary practice – as new wellness routine – and to tackle possible school-related issues experienced by teachers and students (such as ADHD, BES, bulling, DSA, …).

The Educational Yoga Course at School draws on educational content, methods and multidisciplinary tools aimed at outlining a profile of skills useful for supporting the growth of children and adolescents according to the principles of Educational Yoga.

The course consists of theoretical lessons, workshops and practical activities in the gym. Given the aim of the course, the latter will be particularly important and will be held on Saturdays during each training weekend.

The training content is divided into six modules.

The first concerns the philosophical and epistemological foundations of educational yoga, and in particular Oki do Yoga.

The second module is pedagogical in nature and offers the epistemological foundations of this science, applying them to educational practice, with particular regard to the dimension of identity and spiritual growth (also with contributions from philosophy for children).

The third module works on the connection between mind and body through a pedagogy of physicality and motor skills, consciousness and the connections between the spiritual and scientific spheres

The fourth module focuses on positive psychology, highlighting its theoretical foundations and principles on the one hand, and its practical application in educational contexts on the other. It also examines the tools and methodologies used to assess the impact of yoga and mindfulness on cognitive functioning, with a focus on executive functions and behavioural regulation.

The fifth module concerns well-being at school and emotional intelligence. Starting from the philosophy for children approach, the neurological effects of meditation, the principles of minimal breathing and their application to yoga will be considered.

Finally, the sixth module is particularly broad and is dedicated to the practice of Educational Yoga, experienced directly in the gym with expert trainers. Holistic activities, breathing exercises (pranayama), visualisations (pratyahara), yoga positions (āsana), massage techniques and playful-collaborative practices are examined and practised. For these, the willingness of participants to be directly and actively involved is essential.

The Educational Yoga Course at School promoted by the Department of Philosophy, Sociology, Pedagogy and Applied Psychology, aims to provide a valuable addition to the training profile of nursery and primary school teachers, teachers of all subjects in lower and upper secondary schools, as well as educators, pedagogues, psychologists, yoga teachers, social and health workers, undergraduates/graduates in single-cycle, three-year and master’s degree courses in Education Sciences, Biomedicine, Motor Sciences and Psychology.
