The Master in Physical Activity as a Medicine: From Evaluation to Personalized Prescription (ESMED) focuses on multidisciplinary knowledge and skills for doctors engaged in the clinical and functional evaluation of patients suffering from chronic diseases, to prescribe physical activity as prevention and cure for such pathologies (Exercise Pill).
Attendees will improve their specific theoretical-practical competence in the prevention and treatment of the most frequent chronic diseases, also through the prescription of physical activity based on an accurate functional and medical assessment.
The interactive teaching method focuses on problem-based learning, to acquire skills and hands-on competence that can easily be transposed in a work setting.
The Master in Physical Activity as a Medicine: From Evaluation to Personalized Prescription (ESMED) is based on a cross-cutting and multidisciplinary approach, to help attendees develop the skills and professional expertise required to integrate the prescription of individualized physical activity in the treatment plan of patients suffering from several chronic diseases, risk factors or multi-morbidity conditions.
With hands-on internships, complemented by simulation workshops at the Medicine Department of the University of Padua, attendees will complete a (real or simulated) on-field training, and will assess their knowledge, skills and competences acquired in a practical manner.
The Master is provided in blended mode (in-person and remotely). Lectures may be attended in person or online, to ensure the highest level of flexibility. The only modules that can only be completed in person are hands-on workshops.

The Master in Physical Activity as a Medicine: From Evaluation to Personalized Prescription (ESMED) is partner of “Technogym”, a global company, leader in the development of fitness and sport products, digital technologies and services, and health promoter through its “Wellness foundation”, a non-profit association focused on the research and promotion of healthy lifestyles. The Master may resort to the “Wellness Valley” facilities and the technical/scientific know-how of its staff, which is involved in the workshops.
The general ranking of merit for the academic year 2025/26 will be published on the Italian page of this Master according to the timing provided in the Call.

FAQ
Attendance of at least 70% of the total hours is mandatory, and of at least 90% of in-person activities (internship and workshops).
Yes, there will be a written/oral exam.
If the minimum quantity of 15 enrolled students is exceeded, the enrolment fee will be reduced to €450.00 for up to 15 applicants, 5 of which will be reserved to newly-graduate doctors (within one AA after graduation) and to specialist medicine students (including those enrolled in the last year, provided that the graduation date does not precede the Master’s start date).
This fee shall be reimbursed after enrolment, when the first instalment is paid out. Reduced enrolment fee shall be assigned exclusively according to the ranking established after pre-enrolling in the course, without assessing any take-overs. The €450.00 surplus will be returned after the enrolment.
Lectures will be provided in blended mode, and attendees can choose whether to attend in person or online, in synchronous mode. There will be asynchronous (recorded lectures), independent (online, on e-learning platforms) and blended mode activities, with subsequent in-person insights. The course’s structure will perfect integrate independent/asynchronous activities and synchronous ones, and the educational strategies adopted will help attendees learn in a quick manner and promptly assess whether the objectives have been achieved.
The only activities to be attended in person will be focused on the active learning of specific skills and competences, acquired through seminars, stages and workshops held at the Medical Training Centre in Padua, and at the partner’s facility, in the “Technogym Village” of Cesena.
